Babolat Cup UK Prize 2018 Recap
Mia Wainwright, 2018 Babolat Cup Champion, recently took a trip to Roland Garros as part of the prize for winning our annual competition. Unfortunately, our boys champion, Viktor Frydrych was unable to attend as he was competing at a Tennis Europe event.
The prize day was filled with the highest levels of clay court tennis the ATP and WTA has to offer in one of the most iconic cities in the world. The rallies were thrilling, the sun was shining, and the French crowds were cheering.
With the picturesque city in the backdrop and the iconic Eiffel Tower only minutes away, Mia was ready to see what this famous venue had to offer. Saturday’s Philippe-Chatrier schedule including some of the best clay court players of recent times; Simona Halep, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, Gael Monfils and Serena Williams.
For Mia and her mum, Serena Williams’ shock defeat to Sofia Kenin, “was a thriller of a last match” to see.
As well as some amazing tennis, Mia was taken to see the French Open official stringing service provided by Babolat in action. This gave Mia a VIP look into a racket’s journey from being dropped off by a player to being picked up ready for action. But what made this experience even more special was the moment Mia was handed one of Rafael Nadal’s rackets, fresh off the turntable. A wonderful photo opportunity to which our Babolat Cup Champion concluded, “that’s made my day that has”.
This trip was a fantastic opportunity to see the world’s best doing their thing out on the orange clay under the French summer sun. We wish Mia the best of luck in her upcoming tournaments and look forward to seeing her progress and develop out on the court.
